Milford L. Juhl

Milford L. Juhl was born in Guthrie County. At the age of 12, he was sent to live with an uncle when his mother died. He graduated from high school in Nevada, Iowa.

Milford joined the Army after Pearl Harbor and was sworn in as an aviation cadet in the Army Air Corps. He became a flight instructor on B-17s and B-29s.

Joining the Iowa National Guard in 1947, Milford was the first pilot from Iowa to attend helicopter pilot school, flying the first helicopter into Iowa for the Guard. He flew the helicopter to many events to promote its value. He became supervisor of the Army National Guard Aircraft Operations in Boone.

He was a pilot for Iowa governors and State Officials from 1948 to 1970. In 1962, he became the State Aviation Officer.

Milford Juhl died in 2008.
