Wyman Fiske Marshall

Wyman was born on May 6, 1893 in Marion, Iowa . He was a member of the “Three Musketeers†flying team from 1928-1929. His distinguished military career included service during WWII and the Korean War. He was awarded the Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, Presidential Unit Citation and Campaign Awards. He developed dive bombing techniques and air-to-land support. He was a leader of the famous “Hell Divers†precision flying team of the Marine Air Corps and retired as a Brigadier General.

On August 23-24, 1942 he served as a pilot in the first mass transfer of a squadron of 12 Marine Air Transports (R4-D’s) from the U.S. to the South Pacific. This historical flight set a world’s record for the longest non-stop mass flight of twin-engine aircraft with P&W R-1830 engines. Elapsed time: 15.8 hours.

During his private career he was instrumental in the development and growth of Northwest Airlines.
