Grant H. Woldum

Grant Woldum, born in Waukon, Iowa, was a tireless advocate for the Civil Pilots Training Program. He spent much of his time and energy lobbying the federal government to start this program, and convincing other pilots to do the same. Because of his efforts, private pilots were readily available for advanced flight training during World War II.

Grant held both his private and transport licenses and instructed student pilots at the University of Iowa. During WWII he was a member of a three-pilot team that started the Military Air Transportation System in the Gulf of Mexico. In 1960 he joined the Decorah Flying Club and continued instructing pilots until his death in 1994. Another of his hobbies, collecting aviation wings and emblems, resulted in one of the finest collections in the country.
